Obituaries: Bernadette Roy

Bernadette Roy, 79, of Bristol,  widow of Raymond Roy,  passed away peacefully on Saturday December 3, 2016.

Bernadette was born on October 21, 1937 in Eagle Lake, Maine, a daughter of the late Ernest and Imelda (Charette) Gagnon.

She attended schools in Ft. Kent, ME and Waterbury, CT. She was a member of St. Matthew Church and worked for both Industrial Components and Peck Spring before her retirement.

Mrs. Roy is survived by her daughter, Pamela Barnes of Southington; her sister Arlene Capirchio of Bristol; her grandsons, and granddaughter, her great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son Daniel Roy; her brothers Ronald, Bernard, Roland and Daryl Gagnon and her wonderful sister-in-law Claudette Roy.

Bernadette’s daughter, Pam would like to especially thank her partner of 14 years, Gus Ververis for all his love, support and patience in the recent years. Also, a thank you to all the care givers and staff at Sheriden Woods for taking good care of her mom.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Matthew Church, 120 Church Ave. Bristol/Forestville on Saturday December 17, 2016 at 10AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.

Obituaries: Marjorie Elder Herold

Marjorie Elder (Pierce) Herold, 90, of Bristol, widow of Russell L. Herold whom she married on October 18, 1947, died on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the Bristol Hospital. Marjorie was the daughter of the late Howard E. and Agnes N. (Elder) Pierce. She was educated in Bristol Schools and graduated from Bristol High School with the Class of 1944. Her main interest was family and home, and she had a keen interest in history and genealogy. She was a member of the Bristol Genealogy Society, Connecticut Society of Genealogists and the New England Historic and Genealogic Society as well as other Libraries. Marjorie and Russell lived in Bristol all their lives and were lifelong members of the Prospect United Methodist Church, Bristol. She was a member and volunteer of the American Clock and Watch Museum, and was a charter and life member of the Bristol Historical Society. Marjorie is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Russell L. and Holly Herold of Gulfport, FL, and Scott L. Herold and Lynn Grenier of Southington; she leaves a very special, beautiful and caring daughter, Heidi H. Flower of Plymouth; her special grandchildren, Lt. Christian P. Herold, USCG (ret.), Matthew W. Herold and wife, Lacy, Emily R. Flower and husband, Eric Pomeroy, Eleanor Riker and husband, Jay,, and Marissa Armentano; eight great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Zachary Herold, Denali and Rayne Herold, Rose and Owen Pomeroy, and Harrison and Nolan Riker; two wonderful brothers, Russell E. Pierce and Donald R. Pierce; her loving sister, Mary E. Drzewiecki; and an agnate of nieces and nephews, including Sara Westervelt; and dear friend, Sharon Zadnick.  In addition to her husband and parents, Marjorie was predeceased by two brothers, Howard “Eddy” Pierce, Jr. and Clarence “Bill” Pierce and a sister, Dorothy Damiano. Funeral services will be celebrated at the Prospect United Methodist Church on Thursday (December 15, 2016) at 11 A.M. Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Bristol. Leon M. Mackiewicz, 76, of Terryville, passed away Friday December 23, 2016 at home.

 

Leon was born April 11, 1940 in Waterbury, CT.  He was the son of the late Isadore and Sophie (Siemiatkoski) Mackiewicz.  Leon had his Master in Education and prior to his retirement was employed as a high school administrator for Masuk High School in Monroe, CT.  Leon was a parishioner of St. Casimir Church, Terryville.

 

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Alexander and Ashley Mackiewicz of Fairfield; his daughter and son-in-law, Mya and Mike King of Newtown; his sisters, Jean Mackiewicz, Joyce Jones, Leona Acker and her husband Doug all of Terryville; his grandchildren, Matthew King, Alex King and Emerson Mackiewicz.  He also leaves several nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.

 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11:00AM at St. Casimir Church, Terryville for a Mass of Christian Burial. Robert H. Bayer, 73, of Farmington, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2015, at Touchpoints of Farmington.  Robert was born in Bristol on February 11, 1943 and was a son of the late John and Ottilie (Tiede) Bayer.  Robert was a longtime resident of Forestville, worked in the Stop and Shop warehouse prior to retirement and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bristol.  Robert is survived by two sisters: Louise Swanson, of Forestville and Sharon Butler, of Bristol; two brothers: Ernest Bayer, of Colorado and Paul Bayer, Bristol; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a sister, Carol McCorriston in November and a brother, John Bayer.   Funeral services will be held on Friday (December 30, 2016) 11 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 154 Meadow St., Bristol.  Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Bristol.  Relatives and friends may call at the church on Friday, between 10 and 11 AM.  Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol is in care of the arrangements. Marie Corinne LaFrance, 68, of Southington, widow of Jean-Louis LaFrance Sr., died January 6, 2017, at the Hospital of Central CT, New Britain Campus.  Marie was born on March 26, 1948 in Madawaska, ME and was a daughter of the late Donat Clavette & Jeannette (Bellefleur) Clavette.  Marie was a longtime Bristol resident prior to moving to Southington and had worked at Rowley Spring and had retired as a Realtor.  Marie enjoyed sewing, going to the casino, playing Bingo, spending her winters in Florida and was an avid camper at Lone Oaks.  Marie is survived by a son and son-in-law: Jean-Louis LaFrance Jr. and Mark Timbro of Southington; a daughter Deborah-Lee and Paul Chasse of Plainville; a brother Richard Clavette of Madawaska, ME; two sisters Rachelle Caron of Fort Kent, ME and Anne Marquis of Frenchville, ME; four grandchildren: Jean-Louis LaFrance III, Chantal LaFrance, Brenton Chasse and Dustin Chasse; one great grandchild; Natalie Rivera-LaFrance; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by a brother, Reginald Clavette and a granddaughter; Cassandra Chasse.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017, 1 PM at the Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.  Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, between 11 AM and 1PM.  Please visit Marie’s memorial website at www.FUNKFUNERALHOME.com

Mary (Mozelak) Bugryn, of Bristol, widow of Frank W. Bugryn passed away January 19, 2017 at Bristol Hospital.

 

Mary was born September 3, 1921 in Terryville, CT, daughter of the late George and Theodoska (Krenicki) Mozelak.  She was a parishioner of St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church, Terryville.  Mary loved flowers, gardening, traveling, crocheting and the beach.

 

She is survived by her sons, Ronald Bugryn of Bristol, Frank Bugryn and his wife Debbie of Watertown, her daughter, Janice LeBlanc and her husband Ray of Charlestown, RI; her grandchildren Lindsay, Matthew, Taylor, and Kayleigh Bugryn and Jonathan and Kathryn LeBlanc and several nieces and nephews.

 

A special thanks to Liliya, Oksana, and Roman for their dedication and loving care of our mom.

Obituaries: Frank A. Matarazzo

Frank A. Matarazzo, 61 of Forestville, CT., friend of all and known for his love of life, died on Monday, March 13 at his home in Forestville.

Frank was born on June 27, 1955 in Bristol. He lived in Forestville and Bristol his whole life where he attended Bristol Eastern High School, graduating in 1974. He then worked at the former Sawes Florist where he cleaned the shop.  Frank was a simple man who enjoyed being around people and loved the Red Sox and Patriots. Recently, Frank found the game of Wii Bowling at the Bristol Senior Center and was a part of the Bristol Lucky Strikes of the CSWBL. Frank finished third at the 2016 CSWBL Individual tournament B division. His laugh was contagious and his gracious nature was refreshing. He will be missed by all of his friends at the Bristol Senior Center.

Marilyn (Martin) Raymond, 82, of Bristol, beloved wife of Lucien Raymond, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died on Tuesday, April 4 at Sheriden Woods Health Care Center.  Marilyn was born in Van Buren, Maine on Dec. 10, 1934, and was the daughter of the late Alfred and Christine (Parent) Martin.  She was raised in Fort Kent, Maine and came to Connecticut in 1956.  She devoted her life to her family and cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  In addition to her husband of 63 years, Marilyn is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Michael and Denise Raymond of Amherst, N.H.; three daughters: and two sons-in-law: Christine and Michael Taricani of Burlington, Patricia and Donald Tomaszewski of Farmington, and Kathy Albano of Farmington; her brother: Llewellyn Martin of Enfield; six grandchildren: Meghan Tulinski and her husband, Jason, Katelyn Taricani, Matthew and Peter Albano, and Mollie and Grant Raymond; three great-grandchildren: Aiden Plummer, Britton, and Adilyn Tulinski; and several nieces and nephews.   Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Sunday, April 9 between 2 and 4 p.m..   Funeral and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.  Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 200 Executive Boulevard, Southington, CT 06489-1052.  Please visit Marilyn’s memorial web-site at www.FUNKFUNERALHOME.com.

 


Obituaries: Bernadine ‘Bernie’ Procko

Bernadine (Everett) “Bernie” Procko, 92, of Bristol, widow of Mike Procko, died on Wednesday, April 5, 2017) at The Pines at Bristol.  Bernie was born in Nanticoke, Penn. on Sept. 17, 1924, and was a daughter of the late William and Anna (Stahoviak) Everett.  She was raised and attended school in Nanticoke before coming to Bristol in her 20’s.  She worked for New Departure Division of General Motors for 25 years before retiring, and was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church, Bristol.  Bernie was an avid walker and routinely met her friends for shopping and lunch along Route 6.  She enjoyed knitting.  She knitted baby hats for the Bristol Hospital maternity unit.  Making pierogis for the annual holiday Christmas party was a family event shared by the Procko aunts and cousins. Bernie is survived by her three sons: Richard Procko and his wife, Marilyn, of Granby, David Procko and his wife, Karen, of Burlington, and Michael Procko of Bristol; two grandchildren:  Tyler Procko and his wife, Nicole; and Dail Loflin and her husband, Alan; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her three siblings. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 8, 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, 510 West St., Bristol.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.  Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Saturday between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m.  The family of Bernadine wishes to extend their sincere thanks to her caregivers of several years, Shannon and Gina, the nurses and staff at The Pines especially Melissa and Ann, also to Bristol Hospital Hospice for the amazing work they do and compassion they show.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bristol Hospital Hospice, PO Box 977, Bristol, CT 06011-0977.  Please visit Bernie’s memorial web-site at www.FUNKFUNERALHOME.com

Josephine (Kushck) Drzewiecki, 98, of Bristol, widow of Chester M. Obituaries: Keith A. Engle

Keith A. Engle, age 38, of Bristol passed away unexpectedly on April 2 in Essex.  Keith was born on March 16, 1979 in Waterbury, son of Cynthia Engle and the late Arnold Evon.

Keith enjoyed life and adored his family and spending time with them.  He was a spirited DJ, operating DJ Fluff Entertainment.  Keith loved to laugh with friends and family, and never turned down a game of pool.

In addition to his mother, Cindy Engle of Waterbury, Keith is survived by his companion of seven years, Melissa Vandunk of Bristol.  Keith is the devoted father of his daughter, Riley Engle and his stepson, Tyler Bott. He is the loving brother of Heather Santamaria of Wash.  He also leaves his three nieces, Kattie Engle of Bristol and Samantha and Chloe Jannetty of Waterbury; and several cousins, aunts and uncles.  Keith was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Annie and Averill Treffery, his father, Arnold Evon and his cousin, Edward Grifa.

Obituaries: Rosaleen Berube

Rosaleen O’Malley Berube, 78, of Bristol passed away quietly early Friday morning March 31, embraced by the love of her family. Though saddened by her leaving, they take comfort in knowing she rejoins her beloved husband of 43 years, the late Emile Berube.

Rosaleen was born on Feb. 26, 1939 in Hartford, a daughter of the late Valentine and Margaret (King) O’Malley.  In her earlier years she was a volunteer for the Hartford Chapter of the American Heart Association, and after receiving many accolades she worked her way up to be the state co-chair.  Rosaleen enjoyed tending to her garden and took pride in her red roses.  She loved her pets and her family, especially her precious grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at Sheriden Woods for their loving care of Rosaleen over the past five years.

She leaves her daughters, Debra Berube-LaRoche and her husband James, Lisa Berube and her husband Brian DuBois and Michelle Berube; grandchildren Bryan DuBois, Kimber-Leigh Berube, Eric Williams, Sharlene and Christina LaRoche and great grandchild Skylar Williams; brothers George and James O’Malley and sister Alice McKone; several nieces and nephews; and her special friend Liz Hall.  She was predeceased by her siblings Mary, John, Ann, Edward, Patricia and Florence O’Malley.

Harold W. Clark, 90, of Bristol, widower of Elizabeth (Dolan) Clark, passed away on Thursday, March 30 at his home.  Harold was born in New Haven on April 18, 1926 and was a son of the late William E. and Helen (Daniels) Clark. He grew up in Guilford and moved to Bristol in 1962.  He was a longtime Bristol resident and retired from SNET as a lineman.  Harold was a United States Navy veteran, serving during WWII.  Harold enjoyed gardening and was a very active grandfather especially with his granddaughter Alexandra.  He was a member of St. Gregory Church, Bristol and the American Legion Seicheprey Post 2. Bristol. Harold is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law; Deborah and Bruce Anderson of Norwalk and Susan Clark-Russell and her fiancé` Dale Lindberg of Bristol; a son, David Clark of Wethersfield; three grandchildren, Christopher Anderson, Thomas Russell and Alexandra Russell and her fiancé Jordan Noreika; a great-grandson, Declan Russell; a sister, Helen Hawley; four brothers, Billy, Joe, Jackie and Danny Clark; and many nieces and nephews.  A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, April 4 at St. Gregory Church.  Burial with military honors followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.  There were no calling hours and the Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol took care of the arrangements.  Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517 or to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St., I-91 Tech ctr. Catherine Ann (Titus) Norton, of Terryville, passed away April 5 at UCONN Medical Center, Farmington.

Catherine was born March 3, 1959 in Winchester, daughter of the late Gerald and Margaret (Shaw) Titus.  Prior to her illness, she worked for Adams IGA of Terryville.  She loved her grandchildren and working with the public.

She is survived by her fiancé, Richard Raboin,; her son, Richard Wayne Norton Jr; her brothers, Wayne Titus and his wife Elaine, Timothy Titus, Ronald Titus and his wife Nanci; Michael Titus and his wife Constance; her sister, Bonnie Jespersen and her husband Elliott; her grandchildren Levi Judd and Devin Raboin; 14 nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a sister, Wendy Sue Brainard.

Veronica (Deegan) White, 94, originally from Bristol, widow of Frank A. White passed away April 4 at The Summit of Plantsville.

Veronica was born Oct. 1, 1922 in Hartford, daughter of the late Patrick & Mary (Cosgrove) Deegan.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a visiting nurse for the VNA of Bristol.  She was a parishioner of St. Matthew Church, Forestville.  Veronica loved her grandchildren and her dog, Carisa.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra White Vose of Bristol and Doreen White Atkinson of Old Saybrook; her granddaughters, Cassie-Lynn, Carli-Lynn, Carissa-Lynn and Crista-Lynn; her great granddaughter, Callie Lynn. Veronica cherished and loved her daughters, granddaughters and great granddaughter very much.  She also leaves her sister, Theresa McQuarrie and her husband Lewis of Bristol and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her sister, Betty Matava and brother, Joseph Deegan.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m. from the Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville to Immaculate Conception Church, Terryville for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.  Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Terryville.  Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

David J. Dellario passed away on March 29 at Bridgeport Hospital.

David was born and raised in Bristol and a graduate of Bristol Eastern High School   He worked for 29 years at Abel Transmission in Bristol.  David was a loving, caring, gentle soul, who was devoted to his family and loyal to his coworkers and friends.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. David loved to travel, especially to New York City and California.  He supported the arts, loved baseball and Nascar. He loved walking his local trails, volunteering to walk for various charities, antique hunting and collecting memorabilia.  He had a special love for animals. He will be remembered most for his beautiful smile and incredible sense of humor.

David leaves his mother Rita Day, step father Worden Day, his sister Diane Porto and her husband Michael of New Hartford, his sister Deborah Sprague and her husband Donald Scott of Hebron, his nieces Meaghan and Kathleen Sprague of Hebron, his step family, extended family, his co-workers at Abel transmission and several professional associates. He is predeceased by his father, Domenick Dellario.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Obituaries: David M. Reidy

David M. Reidy, 64, of Bristol, passed on Monday, June 5, 2017 at Bristol Hospital.

 

 

 

David was born in Syracuse, NY on August 18, 1952 a son of the late James Reidy, Jr. and late Jean (Coats) Reidy.  Previously, David had been in the hospitality industry and teaching field.  He graduated from St. Lawrence University and continued to be a seeker of knowledge, enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.  He was an accomplished tennis player and swimming enthusiast.

 

 

 

He leaves behind his brothers Patrick J. Reidy of Otisco, NY, Thomas E. Reidy and his wife Kathleen of Old Saybrook, Robert F. Reidy and his companion Kathy Andre of Wilmington, MA; sister Sheila J. Reidy and her wife Janet Taylor; a niece, Haylle Reidy of Cambridge, MA, a half brother, Peter Quinlan of California and several cousins.  David is predeceased by brothers James C. and  Stephen E.

Obituaries: Angelina Eramo

Angelina “Angie” Eramo, 94, of Bristol, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday morning, June 9, 2017 surrounded by her family.  She was the loving widow of Vito D. Eramo, to whom she was married for 64 years.

 

 

 

Angie was born on February 17, 1923 in Holden, West Virginia, daughter of the late Frank and Maria Venturo.  She was an active, longtime member of St. Anthony Church, a member of their Rosary Society, a volunteer at St. Anthony’s Italian Festival for many years, and up until very recently a volunteer at St. Anthony’s Tuesday morning Bingo for over 40 years.  Her greatest joys were her great grandchildren, and spending time with her family. Angie was an avid baker and an amazing cook and made the best pies you’ve ever eaten.

 

 

 

She leaves her only child, daughter Mary O’Donnell and her husband, Tim of Bristol; grandchildren Christy Mitchell and her husband Rob of Bristol, Shelley Mendoza and her husband Greg of West Hartford; great grandchildren Emily and Lauren Mitchell and Matthew and Ryan Mendoza; sisters Esther St. Amand of Bristol, Mary Lou Gualtieri of Boca Raton, FL and Rena Failla of Berlin; brothers, Steve Venturo and his wife Joan; and Anthony Venturo all of Bristol, along with several cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Angie’s kind heart touched all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.

Lillian (Cook) Mendelsohn, 93, of Terryville, widow of James L. Mendelsohn, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Ingraham Manor, Bristol.

 

Lillian was born May 28, 1924 in Bristol, CT, daughter of the late Alexander Cook and Stella (Krajewski) Cook Dlugokenski. Prior to her retirement she was employed by the former O.Z. Gedney Co. of Terryville.  She was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church, Terryville.

 

She is survived by her daughters, Linda M. Mendelsohn of College Park, MD and Carol Mendelsohn of Jamaica Plain, MA; her grandchildren, Daniel James Greening, Rebecca Greening and Natalie Greening and her great grandchildren, Mario Bailote and Estella Bailote, all of Massachusetts.

Obituaries: The Rev. Dr. Richard A. Seeley

The Rev. Dr. Richard A. Seeley passed away on June 15, 2017.

 

Mr. Seeley was born in Laconia, New Hampshire in 1935. He graduated from Laconia High School in 1953 and received a B.A. Degree from Gordon College in 1957. He attended Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary and received a B.D. Later, he took more courses and was granted a Master of Divinity degree in 1973. In 1987, he earned a Doctor of Ministry from Eastern.

 

Mr. Seeley is survived by his wife, Sherideth Cram Seeley, formerly of Pittsfield, NH. The Seeley’s have three children: two sons, Calvin and wife Alisa of Burlington, CT, Karl and wife Jean of Wolcott, CT, and a daughter, Ruth Smith and husband Stephen of Chichester, NH. Mr. Seeley has six grandchildren and two great grandsons. He was predeceased by his older brother, Milton Seeley of Wolfeboro, NH, and is survived by his brother Elden Seeley of Lynn, MA, his sister Elizabeth Mitchell of Chicago, IL, and many nieces and nephews.

 

Mr. Seeley was active in the Boy Scouts, receiving both the “Eagle Scout” and the “God and Country” awards. He was ordained to the Christian Ministry in June 1960 at South Baptist Church in Laconia, NH. He pastored the Georgia Plains Baptist Church, Georgia, VT (1960-64), the First Baptist Church in Hanover, MA (1964-68), the Baptist Church of Warren in Warren, RI (1968-76), the Bristol Baptist Church in Bristol, CT (1976-88), and the First Baptist Church of Endicott, NY (1988-98).

 

Mr. Seeley and his wife have led marriage enrichment retreats, inter-generational family enrichment experiences, marital support groups for clergy persons and their spouses, youth education programs, and workshops on Christian Parenting, and Making A Blended Family Work.

 

Mr. Seeley was active in the community, promoting soup kitchens, emergency housing shelters, fuel banks and food distribution programs for the hungry. He has served on the Citizen’s Advisory Council, Self-Help Inc., and was on the governing board at the Warren Drug Commission and Warren Mental Health Commission, where he was most active in initiating a health program for the community. He was also a major initiator on the Bristol County Fish Program in RI. In 1976, Mr. Seeley was chairman and prime mover of the July 4th Bicentennial Ecumenical Service Planning Committee, in which all the Warren, RI churches participated in a colorful colonial and ethnic procession of banners, flags, and musical pageantry, with a celebrative affirmation service at the community’s park, and concluding with a candlelight ceremony.

 

The wider mission of the church was always one of Mr. Seeley’s deep concerns. In 1971, he and Sherideth represented American Baptists in RI in a preaching mission in Nicaragua and El Salvador. While in Masaya, Nicaragua, he labored with the local Baptist pastor in the construction of a new mission chapel in San Luis.

 

Mr. Seeley was active in the affairs of the American Baptist Denomination. At the state level, he served and chaired ABCCONN’s annual meeting, and served on the Nominating, Camping, Executive, Christian Education, and Evangelism Committees, and on the Commission of Christian Leadership Development. He served as Moderator of the Warren Association, the Hartford Association, and the Broom-Tioga Association. He served on the Housing Equity Task Force for the National Ministers Council.

 

He was active in ecumenical work serving on the Ecumenical Relations Commission of the American Baptist Churches in RI and represented American Baptists on the Faith and Order Commission of the RI Council of Churches.

 

Over the years of his ministry he had been active in denominational youth work. He served as camp counselor and period camp director for nine years over four states.

 

Mr. Seeley loved to travel and has taken extensive family camping trips throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. He has been to the Holy Land three times, and arranged a one month pulpit exchange with the pastor of the Tredegarville Baptist Church in Cardiff, Wales. Mr. and Mrs. Seeley have traveled to many countries in Europe and to China where they worshiped at many churches.

 

Mr. Seeley enjoyed writing. He was published in Foundations journal, and attended a Writer’s Conference at Green Lake. He wrote a book on Children’s Sermons called, How Nice For You To Be In Church. He wrote” A Baptist Catechism” and “The Marriage Manual of the Pastor.”

 

He had a wide variety of interests and hobbies. He enjoyed gardening, boating, painting, woodworking, cooking, playing the piano, and spending time with his family.

 

Calling hours will be at Funk’s Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave; Bristol, CT on Friday, June 16 from 7-9 PM. A Memorial Service will be held June 17, 2017 at 11 AM at First Baptist Church, 90 North Main St., West Hartford, CT.

 

In honor of Richard’s appreciation for his education at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary a Merit Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established at Eastern in his name.
